Delivery skills can come innate to some people, though the majority of trainers and strategic?planning facilitator hone their delivery skills through training and practice. A common problem facilitators have when training is correct movement. Improving movement will drastically improve trainee understanding.
In normal communication, 80%? of what you perceive comes from body language. 10% is facial expression and 10% from voice and tone. If you?re take a look at those staggering numbers, you?ll know why movement is an important item to master. Simply put, without correct movement, everything that you just say can fall on deaf ears.
The most common problem with movement is hand placement. If you create a group of regular people you have got hand-picked from the road and create them stand in a line, you will find that most of them will have their hands in their pockets, fiddling with a mobile phone or jangling coins. As a strategic planning facilitator, your goal is to remain faraway from these mannerisms. Straighten your back and keep your legs apart within the ?at ease? position. Your hands should be at the side of your body. This can be the facilitator?s stance.
Another problem new facilitators have is hand movement. A great number of people speak with their hands. Hand movement is not too much of a problem provided that it isn?t distracting. As a facilitator unfortunately, the only people that will tell you if you?re moving your hands an excessive amount of are the those that see you. One way to assist create your hand gestures less distracting is by practicing in front of a mirror.
In regular classroom or boardroom, there?s what is known as the imaginary line. Many facilitators figure out where their line is before they begin their session by arriving early. Your imaginary line is where everybody will see you clearly without straining their necks. Your position is sometimes behind this line and you simply move forward as a tactic. For instance, moving forward a little to emphasize a point or backward to treat the point as negative. You can also move away from this line toward a participant if you are feeling they don?t seem to be being attentive as this helps them focus back on you.
