Imagine your website as an employee? Does she stack up? Did she work for you last year? Is she showing progress and improvement? If not, then you should seriously consider hiring business marketing consultants to help you plan internet marketing promotion strategies.
I?m a business owner, so I?ve had to do my fair share of letting people go and it sucks. I will tell you that it has never been without justifiable reasoning.
I mean as a business owner, if you have an employee that is performing well and showing you results then why would you ever jeopardize that relationship? You wouldn?t. Yes business owner after business owner I meet tells me they have a website but it doesn?t do anything for their business. Yet they don?t work on that area of their business.
How much does a typical business spend on traditional marketing. Let?s just put some numbers together as an estimate. These numbers comes from an offline business that I own in my home town, so I?m not just making these up.
I spend monthly:
- $185 on Yellow Book marketing
- $2000 (roughly ? sometimes more) on newspaper advertising
- $333 on direct mail (about $2000 every 6 months)
- $25 a month ($300 per year) on a Chamber membership to ?press the flesh?
That?s roughly $2500 a month -for traditional marketing.
I spend at least 2 hours a week reviewing my offline marketing strategies- usually more but I?m being conservative. Yet, I have no idea on how to really track what is happening with it.
How many people actually saw my ad, but then picked up the phone book to call me. When I ask, ?How did you hear about us?? They answer, ?Phone book.? That is how they recall it.
Why would they feel the need to go into a detailed description of every interaction they ever had with me.
However, with online marketing I can see where they came from (Google, Facebook, etc.) I can see how long they stayed. If they took any action on my site like filling out a form or buying a product. I can see what words they were searching for when they found me.
Yet I won?t spend anywhere near $2500 for a business marketing consultant to coach me on strategies AND do the implementation FOR me. Because a business marketing consultant has many other clients and makes websites work like an A+ employee all day.
Yet people tell me all day that because they are confused by the world of internet marketing they have just decided to still with what they know- it?s less expensive and less of a risk. Is it?
I say horse poopy to that one. I think if you aren?t working on your online marketing strategies, it?s because of fear. Fear of being taken advantage of, fear of looking silly, fear of failure.
Well, I can assure you of this. Taking no action is your competitions gift from you. The less you try, the more your competition LOVES you.
I have a client in Florida who is top of Google places, because she got there first. Two of her competitors have called me to see if I can help them too. I?m afraid not, that?s unethical on my part. However, I can hear in their voice how crazed they are that they aren?t getting the traffic that she is.
She was there first. She was unafraid. Google rewarded her with top placement, and now she sees that lack of fear translated into dollars in her bank account.
What does fear cost you? Thank the heavens we don?t know for sure. Knowing the true number would be the most depressing thing in business I could imagine.
